Baastu White Paper

Methodological monograph: classical sources, deterministic engines, epistemic layers, limitations, and privacy ethics.

Foundations

Classical corpora and how Baastu translates them into transparent calculation.

Jyotish

Jyotish

Vedanga Jyotisha

The Vedic limb of timekeeping that anchors calendrics, ritual timing, and celestial observation.

Vedanga Jyotisha is one of the six Vedangas. It preserves early rules for lunar-solar months, nakshatra reckoning, and ritual timing. Later siddhanta astronomy refined planetary models, yet the civilisational project stayed the same: align human action with measured sky order. Baastu inherits a sidereal (nirayana) frame from this lineage and refuses invented ephemerides.

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra

Core Parashari textbook for graha, bhava, dasha, yoga, and dosha categories used in predictive Jyotish.

BPHS organises the chart as lagna-centred houses, planetary dignity, aspects (drishti), yogas, doshas, and Vimshottari dasha. Baastu maps deterministic longitudes into these classical buckets, then labels simplified flags honestly. The text is a living practitioner corpus with multiple editions; we treat it as a category map, not a single manuscript stamp.

Sidereal Zodiac & Lahiri Ayanamsa

Why Baastu uses nirayana signs with Chitrapaksha Lahiri as the production default.

Tropical zodiac follows the vernal equinox; sidereal zodiac keeps signs near fixed stars. Indian civil calendars and most modern Jyotish practice use Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa. Baastu defaults to Lahiri and exposes Raman and KP offsets as methodological choices, never silent swaps. Nodes in production are mean Rahu/Ketu until a higher-fidelity ephemeris upgrade.

Vimshottari Dasha

The 120-year lordship cycle keyed to the Moon's birth nakshatra.

Vimshottari assigns Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, and Mercury 17 years. Mahadasha starts from the birth star with elapsed fraction at birth; Antardasha subdivides the current lord. Baastu reports Maha and Antar periods as calculated facts. Timing language stays decision-support, not fate decree.

dashanakshatratiming

Jyotish

Nakshatras

Twenty-seven lunar mansions of 13°20' each, with four padas that refine dasha and character reading.

From Ashwini to Revati, nakshatras structure birth-star identity, Tara Bala (transit Moon relative to birth star), and dasha start. Each pada is 3°20'. Baastu computes nakshatra and pada from sidereal Moon longitude and uses Tara support in daily rashifal blends. Classical lore is rich; our UI surfaces calculation first, then modest interpretation.

nakshatramoontara

Jyotish

Grahas, Bhavas & Whole-Sign Houses

Planets and life-areas from Lagna, using whole-sign house pragmatism in production.

Nine grahas (Sun through Ketu) carry classical significations. Houses 1-12 from Lagna describe self through rest and release. Baastu uses whole-sign houses for clarity and reproducibility, while noting that other systems exist. Strength scores aggregate dignity heuristics into 0-100 decision-support bands (Strong / Steady / Mixed / Needs Care).

Jyotish

Doshas & Yogas

How Baastu flags Manglik, Kala Sarpa, Sade Sati, Pitru, Raja, Dhana, Gaja-Kesari, and Budhaditya.

Dosha and yoga notices follow explicit classical rules (for example, Mars in certain houses for Manglik; Saturn through 12/1/2 from Moon for Sade Sati; kendra-trikona lord links for Raja yoga). Flags say indicated or not indicated with the placements used. They never replace full chart discretion or medical, legal, or financial counsel.

doshayogasade-satimanglik

Jyotish

Gochara (Transits)

How moving grahas colour the natal chart, with Sade Sati and daily Chandra/Tara supports as worked examples.

Gochara reads planets from their current sky seats against the natal Moon or Lagna. Baastu highlights Saturn's three-sign Sade Sati window from the Moon and blends transit Moon friendliness (Chandra Bala) with Tara Bala in daily rashifal. Transits refine timing; they do not erase lagna, dasha, or Anka roots. Prefer paced choices when gochara is heavy and visible effort when supports stack.

Panchang

Panchang

Panchang: Five Limbs

Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga, and Karana as geometric functions of Sun-Moon and weekday.

Tithi is the 12° lunar elongation step; Vara is weekday; Nakshatra is Moon's mansion; Yoga combines Sun+Moon longitudes; Karana is half-tithi. Baastu computes limbs from sidereal geometry and, when coordinates are known, local sunrise/sunset for Rahu Kala and Abhijit windows. Daily guidance treats these as calculated facts, not authored slogans.

panchangtithimuhurtarahukala

Panchang

Muhurta Windows: Rahu Kala & Abhijit

Local quieter and supportive daytime spans derived from sunrise and sunset when geolocation is known.

Rahu Kala is a classical inauspicious daytime eighth used for avoiding fresh starts; Abhijit is a midday supportive span often favoured for measured action. Baastu computes both from local sunrise/sunset rather than inventing clock slogans. When coordinates are missing, daily guidance still reports limbs but omits site-specific windows. Use windows as weather for scheduling, not as fear.

Anka Shastra

Anka Shastra

Anka Shastra

Hindu numerology linking Mulank, Bhagyank, Namank, soul, personality, and karmic roots to graha tones.

Mulank reduces the birth day; Bhagyank reduces the full date; Namank reduces letter values of the birth name. Soul (vowels) and personality (consonants) refine speech vibration. Baastu's primary letter map is Chaldean-aligned; a Katapayadi-inspired akshara map is shown for comparison. Balance, Name Fit, and Timing Ease scores summarise coverage and Personal Year tone on a 0-100 scale.

numerologymulanknamankname

Anka Shastra

Name Vibration & Vara Lord

Why surname stays locked and why birth weekday deepens name recommendations.

Name improvement proposes given-name refinements while locking the family surname: lineage identity is not casually rewritten for score chasing. Birth weekday supplies the Vara-lord planet; letter vibration is cross-checked against that lord. Speaking a refined given name yourself is traditionally enough; legal change is optional and personal.

Baastu

Baastu

Baastu / Vastu Shastra

Directional harmony of built space via the Vastu Purusha Mandala and sixteen-point compass model.

Treatises such as Mayamata and Manasara teach orientation, proportion, and threshold purity (dvara shuddhi). Baastu's engine uses a 9x9 Paramasayika mandala layered on sixteen directions, room-to-pad suitability, Brahmasthan openness, and non-demolition remedies: light, colour, plants, furniture, yantra, and behavioural placement before structural change.

Directions & Elements

Classical directional ideals: NE clarity, SW stability, SE fire kitchen, NW air movement.

Northeast (Ishanya) favours water, light, and worship; southeast (Agneya) favours kitchen fire; southwest (Nairritya) favours heavy rest and mastery; northwest (Vayavya) favours movement and guests. Exact room scoring depends on entrance and pad deities. Baastu reports zone energy on a heatmap and ranks gentle corrections before demolition advice.

Beyond Jyotish, Anka, and Baastu, the Vidya hub offers twelve classical Hindu knowledge systems as deterministic decision-support. Each module separates calculated fact from interpretation and recommendation. Readings stay free; Nepali translation of generated text uses Google Translate on demand. Nothing here replaces licensed medical, legal, or financial counsel.

Ashtakoot Guna Milan

Thirty-six classical points from Varna through Nadi using both partners' Moon and nakshatra.

Guna Milan scores Varna (1), Vashya (2), Tara (3), Yoni (4), Graha Maitri (5), Gana (6), Bhakoot (7), and Nadi (8). Baastu computes from sidereal Moon rashi and nakshatra for both people. Same Nadi (0/8) is a traditional caution. Scores inform conversation; they do not grade human worth or override consent.

Four-Layer Guidance

Calculated Fact, Interpretation, Recommendation, and Traditional Remedy kept deliberately separate.

Credibility in guidance software is epistemic. Baastu institutionalises four layers: auditable facts (longitudes, roots, room scores); modest interpretation attached only to those facts; non-coercive recommendations; optional traditional remedies with source tags. Generative models may phrase, never invent, sky or number facts. Scores are weather maps for attention, not verdicts on human worth.

methodethicslayers

Score Bands (0-100)

Strong 75+, Steady 55-74, Mixed 40-54, Needs Care under 40 across engines.

Life-area, daily, Anka, and Baastu scores share one band language so readings stay comparable. Strong invites visible effort; Steady supports ordinary care; Mixed asks for selective action; Needs Care favours rest, repair, and risk reduction. Bands summarise heuristics; they do not rank a person's dignity.

Remedy Ethics

Remedy Ethics

Remedy Ethics

Remedies are culturally grounded recommendations, never medical, legal, or financial prescriptions.

Mantra, dana, fasting, temple seva, yantra, rudraksha, and conditional ratna practices appear across puranic and practitioner traditions. Baastu tags each remedy with difficulty, cost band, frequency, and traditional source. Gemstones require careful chart review and are never auto-prescribed as cures. Prefer sattvic, reversible, non-demolition supports first.

remedyethicsdisclaimer

Remedy Ethics

The Remedy Ladder

Order of care: habit and dana first, then mantra and seva, then yantra or rudraksha, gems last and only with counsel.

A trustworthy remedial path climbs slowly. Begin with sleep, speech, entrance cleanliness, and regular dana. Add japa and temple or home lamp seva next. Yantra and rudraksha follow when the practice is stable. Ratna comes last, never as a panic purchase or substitute for medicine, law, or accounting. Baastu ranks non-demolition and low-cost supports ahead of irreversible change so agency stays with the person.

Mantra Path

Mantra Path

Mantra Path

How to approach japa with sankalpa, breath, and consistency rather than volume chasing.

Classical practice pairs mantra with clean intent (sankalpa), steady breath, and a sustainable count. Sunrise and sandhya are traditional windows; a quiet clean corner facing east or northeast helps. Baastu lists widely admired mantras with source notes. Pronunciation care matters more than speed. If a lineage guru has given a personal mantra, that instruction takes precedence over generic lists.

Mantra Path

Japa Discipline & Mala

Sustainable counting, mala etiquette, and why a guru-mantra outranks a public list.

A mala of 108 beads supports one full round; many households begin with one sincere round rather than ambitious targets that collapse. Keep the mala clean, avoid casual display, and rest the mind between rounds. Missed days are repaired by returning without guilt theatre. Public mantras on Baastu are educational; a mantra received from a living lineage teacher remains primary for that disciple and should not be swapped for trend lists.
